Blizzard Entertainment Job Ad Reveals First New IP Since Overwatch

Fresh off the megaton dropped last week, where it was announced that Microsoft’s intends to purchase Activision-Blizzard-King for nearly 69 billion dollars, a job ad has appeared on Blizzard’s website in an attempt to recruit developers for their next game. The game is clearly in the very early stages, but there were some nuggets of information shown in the post. The game, referred to as “Unannounced Survival Game“, is described as “a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console”. While that is not a ton to go on, they also shared some interesting concept art to give a brief look into the new world they are building.

While Blizzard’s game output has slowed in some ways since the release of Overwatch back in 2015, there’s no denying that when Blizzard has released new IP’s they have been game changers. Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Hearthstone, and Overwatch’s releases have all been watershed moments for their respective genres, and its exciting to think about the possibilities of Blizzard entering another new genre.

Another interesting aspect is the timing. As this is being released after the acquisition news, and not before, it could help the company be more appealing to potential new hires as it is widely believed many of the culture issues surrounding the current leadership at Activision-Blizzard will improve with Xbox at the wheel. It will likely be a while before we hear anything else, but it is nice to know there are new things brewing over in Irvine, California.
