The latest Microsoft earnings report has been published for the 4th quarter of 2021 (April through June) and it’s pretty much an expected story for Xbox as a brand.
As you would expect, Xbox Series hardware continues to drive hardware revenue up despite chip shortages globally. Hardware specifically was up 173% year over year. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on the earnings call that the Xbox Series X and S are the “fastest selling Xbox consoles to date – faster than any prior generation.”
The Overall Gaming segment for Xbox was also up 11% YoY. Xbox Content and Services meanwhile, dipped slightly YoY by 4%. According to Microsoft, revenue was driven upwards by Game Pass subscriptions and strong first-party performance, but offset by a weaker showing in third-party revenue. At this time, no new numbers were provided on Game Pass subscriptions.
