According to multiple sources, including Eurogamer, Call of Duty is set to return to World War 2 yet again this fall.
This year’s entry will indeed be developed by Sledgehammer, and will see the series return to WW2. The entry is currently sub-titled “Vanguard”. The story will unfold in the 1950s via an alternate timeline where World War 2 didn’t end in 1945.
The largest open question at this point is how the game may potentially integrate itself into Warzone. Will there be a separate WW2 themed entry in the hub, or not at all?
Sledgehammer’s last mainline Call of Duty release was World War 2 in 2017 so they definitely have experience with the time period. Whether or not fans will embrace it again, particularly considering this year’s entry faces off against Battlefield 6 and Halo Infinite, is another matter entirely.
