In the on-going saga of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, the CMA published its updated findings today. You can find the full details here, but the short summary is this: …the CMA inquiry group has updated its provisional findings and reached the provisional conclusion that, overall, the transaction will not result in a substantial lessening of competition in relation to console gaming in the UK.
The CMA’s overall review is still in-progress and they specifically noted that today’s announcement has no bearing on the concerns around the cloud-gaming market. That aspect of their investigation is still on-track for completion by the end of April. But today’s announcement is certainly a big step forward in the process for Microsoft and Xbox.
As always, we’ll aim to discuss on this weekend’s Bitcast with HoegLaw hopefully available to offer insight and commentary.
