It’s time again for quarterly fiscal results from the big three. And being a new year, it’s also a time to reflect on the calendar year performance of each company. Xbox held their investors call yesterday afternoon and in short, the news is quite good.
The 2021 calendar year marked another record year for Microsoft’s gaming division with growth in every area including hardware, software, and services. Here’s the full breakdown:
- Total gaming revenue was $16.3 billion, up 17.7% YoY
- Content and Services revenue was $12.6 billion, up 8.8% YoY
- Hardware revenue was $3.7 billion, up 63.3% YoY
- Content and Services account for 77% of overall revenue
Our Take
As we frequently reiterate here at SG, the big three continue to be extremely successful with growth in nearly all areas. It’s excellent to see Xbox doing so well even prior to the Activision-Blizzard agreement.
While we don’t have the figures yet for PlayStation and Nintendo, we expect both to also report record revenue.
