Wow, what an amazing week for gaming already. After the announcement of Bethesda making an Indiana Jones game yesterday, Lucasfilm Games has followed up with yet another blockbuster: they are partnering with Ubisoft on an open-world Star Wars title.
The title will be developed by Ubisoft Massive, the development team behind The Division 1 & 2. As this announcement comes on the heels of EA renewing their partnership with Disney on the Star Wars IP, many had questions. Sean Soptaw, Senior Vice President of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney, offered the following quote to WIRED:
“EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward, but we did feel like there’s room for others.”
Meanwhile, CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot issued the following statement:
“The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium. Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.”
Our Take
Exciting times are ahead, particularly for fans of the IPs that encompassed our childhoods if you’re seasoned like us!
This is insanely awesome news! Ubisoft are the king of open world games. This could be freaking amazing if done correctly for sure; has me in the hype zone at about 6-7 out of 10.
