With COVID-19 continuing to disrupt industries across the world, companies are exploring ways to keep their operations in motion. Throughout the videogame industry, we’ve seen major shows like E3 and Gamescom already making plans to go digital while game delays are beginning to affect more titles.
For the Xbox team, it seems they are now planning to go “Digital First” through at least July of 2021. VideoGameChronicle is reporting that an Xbox representative provided the following statement:
“In light of the challenges presented by COVID-19, Microsoft has been closely monitoring the developing global situation and re-assessing the overall company-wide in-person event strategy,” the company said in a statement.
“As a company, Microsoft has made the decision to transition all external and internal events to a digital-first experience through July 2021.
This will include the future MVP & RD Summit which is currently scheduled for March 28 – April 2, 2021. We will continue to evaluate the situation and look forward to connecting in person when the situation allows.”
Our Take
Sadly, this is the world we live in at the moment. While we always enjoy digital shows and press conferences, being there live is an experience that simply can’t be replicated. Hopefully in the future we’ll be able to continue to enjoy these shows through both avenues.
