PlayStation Cancels Attendance at PAX East

As we reported a few weeks ago, Sony and the PlayStation team were planning a rather large presence at PAX East. Major titles such as The Last of Us 2, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Iron Man VR, and more were to be shown and playable for fans.

However, as of this morning, those plans have been cancelled. The PlayStation team had very little to say on the matter other than it is due to concerns surrounding the Coronavirus. Their official statement is as follows:

Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”). We felt this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.

Our Take

This is sad news but with the global concern around the virus growing, we are also not in a position to put anyone at fault. We’re unsure why some smaller, local teams couldn’t still attend for fans. Regardless, we hope to see some show attendance for fans from Sony in the near future.
