Another major name in the industry is leaving the company they helped build.
After Dan Houser’s departure from Rockstar yesterday, Rod Fergusson just announced he is leaving The Coalition. Fergusson has long been a lead on the Gears of War franchise, first at Epic Games and more recently as the Studio Head for The Coalition. Fergusson announced his departure via Twitter.
I began working on Gears of War over 15 years ago and since then, it has been the joy of my life. But now it’s time for a new adventure. I leave Gears in the great hands of The Coalition and can’t wait for everyone to play Gears Tactics on April 28. pic.twitter.com/Az5w0B631i

Fergusson will be joining Blizzard to help oversee the development of future Diablo titles.
Starting in March, I will join Blizzard to oversee the Diablo franchise. Leaving is bittersweet as I love our Gears family, the fans, and everyone at The Coalition and Xbox. Thank you, it has been an honor and a privilege to work with you all. pic.twitter.com/0FuO3RFYSQ

Our Take
This is major news as Fergusson has been a shepherd for the Gears of War franchise for a very long time and was a big part of the IP being reborn under The Coalition. It will be interesting to see who takes over in the studio for Xbox Game Studios. We wish Rod all the best at Blizzard and can’t wait to see his impact on the highly anticipated Diablo 4!
