While Apex Legends looks to have promise and we’ll be speaking more on it in the near future, some very sad news has come out of the live stream of the title today. Specifically, that Titanfall 3 is no longer in development.
Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, Drew McCoy (Producer for Respawn), said the following:
There are some people who think there are too many battle royale games or it’s a fad, the world thinks we’re making Titanfall 3 and we’re not – this is what we’re making.
This led to some speculation that Titanfall 3 was never in development to begin with but Jason Schreier at Kotaku noted that it absolutely was in development at one point in time per a high ranking source within Respawn.
Quite frankly, this is very disappointing news. Regardless whether or not Apex Legends is a solid title, the Titanfall series of games were both excellent and unique titles which breathed fresh life into the FPS genre. It’s likely that Respawn will simply be focusing on Apex Legends and their upcoming Star Wars title for the foreseeable future, but we hope they get back to Titanfall at some point.
