Red Dead Redemption 2 has been the talk of the industry since release but as we look to the future of the title, it resides with Red Dead Online. Many are wondering if Rockstar will support RDO in the same vein as their tremendous support for GTA Online and it seems we will find out sooner than we expected.

Rockstar has announced that early access to RDO begins tomorrow (November 27th) for Ultimate Edition owners with more and more players being given access until the full public beta on November 30th. The specifics around access are as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 27th : All RDR2 Ultimate Edition owners are granted access.
  • Wednesday, November 28th : All players who played RDR2 on October 26th.
  • Thursday, November 29th : All players who played RDR2 between October 26th and 29th.
  • Friday, November 30th : All players who own RDR2.

Rockstar describes Red Dead Online as follows per their press release:

With the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as its foundation, Red Dead Online transforms the vast and deeply detailed landscapes, cities, towns and habitats of Red Dead Redemption 2 into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players. Create and customize your character, tailor your abilities to suit your play style and head out into a new frontier full of things to experience.

Explore the world solo or with friends. Form or join a Posse to ride with up to seven players; gather around the fire at your Camp; head out hunting or fishing; visit bustling towns; battle enemy gangs and attack their hideouts; hunt for treasure; take on missions and interact with familiar characters from across the five states; or fight against other outlaws in both spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles; compete with other players or whole Posses in open world challenges and much more.

Our Take

We’re truly looking forward to the online world that Rockstar has created for Red Dead Online. Some of us here at SG were big fans of the multiplayer in the original title and given the time and effort spent on RDR2, and knowing how well GTA Online fares, we’re expecting one hell of a good time. We’ll discuss on next week’s Bitcast so stay tuned!
