Sadly, it seems as though the crossplay drama just won’t end. Every time we think Sony may be taking a step to resolve the issue/concern for their players, they take another step backwards.
Speaking at the IFA Technology show in Berlin, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said the following on the subject:
On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play. Fortnite, I believe, partnered with PlayStation 4 is the best experience for users, that’s our belief. But actually, we already opened some games as cross-platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. That is our way of thinking for cross-platform.
This of course flies in the face of the requests of many in the community including many high profile PlayStation community members along with independent studies showing that Xbox Live is faster and more reliable than PSN. Of course defining the “best experience for users” is purely subjective. But no matter your thoughts on the subject, it certainly seems as though Sony won’t be changing their stance any time soon.
Our Take
We’ve made our stance on this subject exceedingly clear and it doesn’t behoove Sony. If they were truly “For the Players” they would change their stance and back away from the market leader arrogance. We continue to hope that this will be a forgotten memory in the coming years that we’ll all laugh about.
