God of War : Release Date, Story Trailer, and Limited Edition Details

Finally, after years of waiting, we have launch details on the next God of War game. First, the title will release on Friday, April 20th and here’s the story trailer!

In addition to the standard disc version of the game, there are special bonuses for pre-ordering and/or buying the digital copy, limited edition, and a collector’s edition titled the “Stone Mason” edition. Their details are as follows:

First, if you pre-order you’ll receive three legendary shield skins:

Also, if you pre-order any edition at GameStop or EB Games, you’ll also receive the Luck of Ages XP Talisman which provides an increase to XP, Hacksilver, and the ability to trigger perks.

Digital Deluxe Edition

If digital only is king for you, we didn’t forget. Adorn the legendary Death’s Vow Armor Set to increase your strength, and honor the solemn promise that sends Kratos and Atreus on their journey through the Norse wilds of Midgard and beyond. The digital comic book from Dark Horse, Issue #0 starts to unearth the story of Kratos before his quest with Atreus begins. Not to mention both the digital comic and mini art book will come with exclusive creator commentary tracks.

Stone Mason Edition

Available in the US and Canada only, this edition includes everything in the Collector’s Edition along with four very distinct, rare items directly from the game. You might recognize Atreus’ wooden Horse and Troll carvings from our E3 2016 debut. They complete the collection with the Huldra Bros, btw. The Stone Mason Ring is a finely crafted piece of jewelry, whose story we won’t spoil. The talking Mimir Head keychain may be your personal favorite after you interact with him in game. Massive credit to Gentle Giant capturing the exquisite detail of these!

Our Take

God of War is certainly one of our most anticipated titles of the year and we hope the reboot lives up to the action and brutality that the series is known for. We also love the April 20th date as it’s not far away and currently doesn’t sit next to any other blockbusters. Bring it on!
