While it’s no secret that more and more players are purchasing their games digitally, we now have a broad idea of what that represents within the console market. In an Electronic Arts Earnings call yesterday, it was predicted that by the end of 2017, over 40% of console game sales would be digital.
Given the continued push towards digital sales and the various ways in which they are offered, it’s very possible we will see 2018 as the year that digital sales finally surpass physical on consoles.
Our Take
There’s nothing too surprising with this data although we are a little surprised that digital sales are representing as much as 40% of sales strictly among console games today. We have to imagine the ability to pre-load and play immediately upon release is a big factor in the purchasing decision for consumers. What do you prefer? Leave a comment and let us know!
