Report : WB Games Cancels Wonder Woman, Shutters Studios

According to a report from Bloomberg, several drastic decisions were made by Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. yesterday relating to their gaming studios and planned releases.

Per the report, attained by Bloomberg News via an internal memo staff within WB Discovery, Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego are all being shut-down. This will mean a large-scale reorganization of internal efforts and priorities relating to major IPs such as D.C. Comics, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and more.

The memo reportedly quoted the following from JB Perrette, Head of Games and Streaming for Warner Bros.: “The quality of too many of our new releases has really missed the mark. We need to make some substantial changes to our portfolio/team structure if we are to commit the necessary resources to get back to a ‘fewer but bigger franchises’ strategy.”

In addition to the studio closures, the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman team has also been cancelled. After the announcement, several of the team members took to social media to comment on their layoffs and disappointment in the decision. Gail Simone acted as a consultant on the game and had the following to say:

Overall this just marks yet another disappointing round of layoffs and cancellations to some of the most-respected and well-known IPs in gaming. We’ve discussed the state of the industry many times on Bitcast and we’ll be sure to talk about WB in our upcoming show.
