After the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, some senior developers at CD Projekt Red left the company to form a new studio in 2022. Named Rebel Wolves, their mantra is “Happy People Make Great Games” as they set out to chart their own course. A couple of years ago the studio announced it was working on a AAA, dark-fantasy RPG. Today, they debuted that title: The Blood of Dawnwallker.
Rebel Wolves CEO, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, previously worked in director and producer roles on both The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. With The Blood of Dawnwalker, he is also taking on the mantle of game director. Set in 14th century Europe, The Blood of Dawnwalker is described as follows:
Bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. In the wake of the disasters claiming thousands of lives, the decimated human population struggles for survival. It’s a moment of weakness – and that’s all they needed. The vampires walk out of the shadows and claim what they’ve been denied for centuries: freedom, and power that comes with it. Other creatures of the night follow their lead. Legends turn into reality, and history as we know it will never be the same.
You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Use your skills and combine vampiric strength with human resolve as you take on a quest to save the ones you love. Face your foes – be they human, monster, or the ticking clock itself. But remember – the real evil may bask in the sun’s light, and the most loyal of allies could lurk under the cover of night.
The team at Rebel Wolves is looking to create a narrative sandbox that provides players the ability to make choices that impact the world around them. As we’ve seen with prior games from these developers, their ability to weave stories and narrative into beautiful worlds is nearly unmatched. The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player, open-world adventure and the first-entry in a new saga.
