Elden Ring : Shadow of the Erdtree Gameplay Overview

The time has come. In my opinion Elden Ring is one of the greatest games ever made and we finally have our first look at the expansion nearly two years in the making. Shadow of the Erdtree releases on June 21st and takes players to The Land of Shadow where Marika first set foot.

The Land of Shadow.

A place obscured by the Erdtree.

Where the goddess Marika first set foot.

A land purged in an unsung battle.

Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame.

It was to this land that Miquella departed.

Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of all things Golden.

A New Story

Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot. In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.

Exploring a Familiar World Full of New Secrets

ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree takes players beyond the Lands Between to explore the Land of Shadow, a completely new world from ELDEN RING. Players can seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam.

A Further-deepened RPG

Shadow of the Erdtree adds new weapons, equipment, weapon skills and magic not found in the base game ELDEN RING, along with new enemies, boss encounters and plotlines to further increase players’ RPG freedom. Take on the threat with the new powers you can acquire.

To accompany the new release, a Shadow of the Erdtree edition featuring the core game and expansion along with a new Collector’s Edition will also be offered.

  • I’m torn to be honest. Elden Ring was the only game of this type I was ever comfortable in and eventually confident enough to feel like I achieved progress whilst also enjoying the journey. I only completed three, I think, main story bosses. Maybe more. The rest of my time was exploring and combat out in the open world. That’s all I wanted. The reason I am torn is because I want to explore this new world, but I just don’t know if I have it me for the huge boss fights. I was already quite an old guy, and now two years older and enjoying more relaxed gaming, this expansion may have to be one I enjoy through someone else’s gameplay. We’ll see come June. I could decide to start afresh, on pc this time, even if i do just enough to unlock access to all the regions. One thing I do know though is that this expansion looks outstandingly beautiful in all that has been created.
