After over 20 years of being the premiere trade-show for the gaming industry, E3 is officially dead. This morning the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced that it was canceling the long-running show permanently.
“After more than two decades of hosting an event that has served as a central showcase for the U.S. and global video game industry, the ESA has decided to bring E3 to a close.” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the non-profit trade association that represents the games industry’s interests in the United States.
Not only is this disappointing news for the industry as, like us, we believe many had hoped to see E3 return. But it’s disappointing news for us personally as some of our earliest memories as an outlet being recognized formally were at E3 2018 and 2019. Sadly, COVID prevented the show from proceeding and it never recovered. We’ll miss it!
