During a routine earnings call yesterday, Warner Bros. president and CEO David Zaslav unceremoniously confirmed the release of the 12th game in the Mortal Kombat series, currently referred to as “Mortal Kombat 12”, is planned for 2023.
“…And there’s lots more to come, including the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – games also set for release this year, with ambitious launch projections.” — David Zaslav
The next project from NetherRealm Studios has long been rumored to be INJUSTICE 3, based on the studios near 10-year history of alternating between those two IPs with each release. So studio founder and the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, was quick to poke fun at the situation.
So who has heard the news about INJUSTICE 3 ?

Our Take
It’s quite strange to have the latest entry in one of gaming’s most iconic franchises be revealed so unceremoniously, especially considering we just passed the franchise’s 30th anniversary. It’s also worth noting that it’s long-time competitor, Street Fighter, is also releasing this year and currently in the middle of a massive PR blitz. However, we are excited to hear about the franchise’s return and look forward to a “proper” reveal in the months ahead.
