Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 : Everything You Need to Know

The Call of Duty Next event provided us the first official look at Warzone 2.0 including the map, combat details, game modes, and more. Over 125 million people played the original Warzone and if the presentation during COD Next was any indication of what’s to come, we expect that number will be even higher for Warzone 2.0. Why? Let’s dive into the details:

First things first, Warzone 2.0 will launch on November 16th and will be free to play just like the original. It will launch with the DMZ mode intact as well (more details below). Here are some specifics that have been shared during the live-streams:

  • The map, El Mazrah, has been in development since 2020 and is the largest battle-royale/COD map they’ve ever built.
    • It features a wide range of locations and styles which will lead to widely varied combat scenarios including underwater combat, tunnels, underground sections, high-rises, and more.
      • Locations include easter eggs from old COD maps. Locations include:
        • Fortress
        • Quarry
        • Rohan Oil
        • Observatory
        • Ahkdar Village
        • Al Mazrah city
        • Marshlands
        • Airport

  • There are a number of features that create the gameplay scenarios.
    • Wide range of vehicle combat including full-team vehicles, helicopters, and water vehicles.
      • Vehicle damaged can be repaired at specific locations or by using tools you can scavenge.
      • The weight of vehicles will determine their response to damage and explosions.
      • Vehicles can run out of gas.
    • You can lean out windows and hang on ledges.
    • Looting will play a key role beyond weapons such as finding tools, meds in bathrooms, hidden caches, and more.

  • The Gulag returns with a twist. You will now be teamed with a random and you have to work together to defeat another team. If you succeed you both come back.
    • This will have proximity chat so you can work together.
  • A DMZ mode is confirmed and will launch with the game.
    • The AI will occupy many areas of the map and will be formidable foes.
    • There are multiple “win” conditions which you can accomplish with varying gameplay styles.
    • It is played across the entire Warzone 2.0 map.
  • Additional features mentioned that they will discuss more of soon:
    • The Ricochet anti-cheat
    • Ranked mode
    • and other unannounced features

Our Take

Between Modern Warfare 2 returning and Warzone 2.0 launching with new modes, features, and with a cross-alignment with MW2, this is going to be an incredible fall for Call of Duty. We honestly believe that Call of Duty will take over the conversation across the industry for a time and will likely be the most watched/streamed game for some time. Stay tuned for a lot more coverage in the coming week including a full review!
