Xbox Details the Upcoming UI Update for Series X and S Consoles

The Xbox Series X/S home page UI continues to evolve over time and this morning Xbox provided a glimpse into what’s coming next. As always, they are also asking for dedicated Xbox players to join the Insider program to offer feedback.

As detailed on Xbox Wire, the new UI will begin rolling out to Alpha Insiders soon. The key design features in this next update are as follows:

  • The new “Jump back in” row gives you quick access to your most recently played games and apps.
  • Easily access important system apps like Settings, Store, Search and My Games & Apps with their own dedicated tiles on Xbox Home.
  • Consistent design and visual identifiers with updated layouts to keep the experience familiar.
  • When you scroll down, you’ll see curated categories and recommendations tailored to your gaming preferences.

If you’d like to join the Xbox Insider program and get access to new features download the Xbox Insider Hub on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.

Our Take

For us we’re still not enthralled with this early look at the new design. While we certainly don’t speak for the Xbox community, it’s been widely communicated that fans want to see more of the background and have fewer tiles on the main page. This seems to take the UI in the opposite direction which is rather baffling. Why the Xbox team doesn’t limit the core boxes to simply the last couple of games while allowing users to simply tab down (which is next to instant) for more features we don’t know. But we hope they continue to refine it over time.
