Although the official reveal is limited to just confirming the game’s title and providing a piece of key art, Ubisoft will provide more details at the Ubisoft Forward event on September 10th.
While nothing is confirmed yet, the key art seems to also validate some of the other leaks and rumors surrounding the project. Primarily that means that the game’s setting closely resembles that of the original Assassins Creed game from 2007, as well as the game’s protagonist potentially being Basim, a character from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Most importantly to long time franchise fans, though, the leaks also seem to suggest that this new entry will be going back to more familiar Assassin’s Creed game play.
Traditionally, Assassin’s Creed games were a more compact experience with a strong emphasis on stealth, The Brotherhood, the Animus, and the bitter rivalry between the Templars and Assassins. While the core DNA of Assassin’s Creed is still there, ever since the release of Origins, the series has become more of an open-world RPG, which has put more of an emphasis on combat, new gameplay systems, characters, and vast endless worlds to explore.
While this new direction has certainly been successful for Ubisoft, with Valhalla being their first game to surpass 1 billion dollars in sales, there has long since been a legion of older fans who are desperate for a “classic” Assassin’s Creed experience.
