A new report out of IGN details That’s No Moon, a new development studio aiming to make AAA games and staffed by some notable industry veterans.
The team is impressive and has a stellar resume within the industry, with many of its senior figures coming from PlayStation Studios. Michael Mumbauer (formerly head of PlayStation’s Visual Arts Group) is CEO, and Tina Kowalewski (formerly head of product development at Sony Santa Monica) is Chief Strategy Officer. The studios will be based in Los Angeles and San Diego and the group is aiming to staff to 100 developers by next year.
Their first title will be “an ambitious action-adventure title” and is being developed thanks to a 100 million dollar capital investment from Smilegate (creators of Crossfire) who will also act as partners. According to the report, Smilegate aims to “create new experiences that will inspire empathy and deeper personal connections with players around the world.”
Our Take
This is definitely noteworthy as with proper investment capital, leadership, and talent, That’s No Moon could certainly create something special. We’ll be paying close attention to the studio going forward for sure!
