Gears of War Developer, The Coalition, Confirms Shift to Unreal Engine 5

As the new generation moves forward, developers are preparing to focus purely on the new hardware. Developers of Gears of War, The Coalition, announced this morning that they are shifting their resources to Unreal Engine 5. If you’d like to learn more about UE5, visit this official site from Epic Games.

As we look to future games, we’re excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5. Gears of War has always been at the front of Unreal Engine development – as a breakout 720p title for Xbox 360 through last year’s 120FPS multiplayer update for Xbox Series X|S – and we’re excited to continue that tradition by developing on UE5 for multiple new projects in the coming years.

They were also clear that this will take a lot of effort, and thus it will be some time before we will see these new projects.

Shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking, so we want to be clear that we will not be announcing any new projects or titles for some time.

Our Take

This simply makes sense but it’s fun to think about the new game experiences that developers will provide once they full capitalize on the capabilities of new engines and new hardware. It’s going to be an amazing generation for fans.
