PlayStation to Permanently Close PSP, PS3, and PS Vita Online Stores this Year

A report from several sources, including The Gamer, has confirmed the dates in 2021 when PlayStation will permanently shut-down the online stores for the PSP, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita.

According to the sources, the PSP and PS3’s online stores will shutdown on July 2nd while the PS Vita online store will close on August 27th. After those dates, you will no longer be able to purchase digital copies of games nor any content for the platforms.

It goes without saying, if you still plan to download any games on those platforms, now is the time.

Our Take

While this is inevitable, we do wish that PlayStation was doing a better job curating its library for fans. While PS Now covers some of the games to a degree, we’d love to see a bigger focus on optimization and preservation in the future.
