Semiconductor shortages are affecting a wide range of industries ranging from smartphones, to GPUs, CPUs, and of course, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. A growing group of corporations has been calling on President Biden to investigate the production issues largely believed to have been caused by the on-going pandemic.
Via semiconductors.org, the group sent President Biden a letter last week calling for an examination. Biden is expected to sign the Executive Order today calling for a 100 day review.
“Semiconductors play a critical role in enabling the products and services that fuel our economy, contribute to American innovation, and enhance our national security. Given the central role of semiconductors, strengthening the US position in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing is a national priority.”
Industries far and wide have been affected by the pandemic so it’s really no surprise it’s affecting the technology segment as well. Though across industries, and in relation to the Xbox Series X/S and PS5, it’s worth noting that manufacturing has been facing a wide array of challenges and this is but a single aspect. There are many aspects to not only manufacturing, but also logistics, that have been negatively impacted by the pandemic. With that in mind, whether or not anything comes from this is yet to be seen. But we certainly hope for our fanbase’s sake (and even some of our editors) that the shortages end soon no matter what!
