This morning, PlayStation released a new trailer highlighting several titles that are on the way for the PlayStation 5. It also provided some insight into the paid exclusivity on a few upcoming third-party titles.
Notable details on upcoming titles as shown in the video:
- Gran Turismo 7 was previously reported to be releasing in the first half of 2021. This is no longer the case. Additionally, GT7 will be PS5 only and will not appear on the PS4.
- Project Athia, the upcoming RPG from Square-Enix, will be a console exclusive for at least 2 years.
- Deathloop, the upcoming FPS from Arkane Studios, will be a console exclusive for at least 1 year.
- Ghostwire Tokyo, the upcoming horror title from Tango Gameworks, will be a console exclusive for at least 1 year.
The above is particularly interesting given that both Arkane Studios and Tango Gameworks are now Xbox first party studios. But as noted in the Bethesda agreement, previous console exclusivity agreements would be honored by Xbox.
Our Take
It’s great to continue to be hyped for future titles on the PS5. Regarding the exclusivity, it shouldn’t be surprising as PlayStation leadership has mentioned on several occasions that they planned to have extensive agreements with third-parties. You can certainly expect more of this in the future.
