As with any new console launch, the manufacturers can’t wait to let everyone know how successful they’ve been. A couple of weeks ago, the Xbox team noted that the launch of their Series consoles was the largest in Xbox history. And now, after finishing their global rollout, PlayStation has announced the same for the PS5.
PlayStation made the announcement on social media and analysts are currently digging through data to see just how successful the launch was. In 2013, PlayStation said the PS4 had sold 2.1 million units in just over two weeks, which at the time was announced as their largest in history. So it should go without saying that the PS5 is off to an excellent start.
One thing is for certain. With gaming reaching new heights in 2020 due to COVID, and the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles being sold out everywhere due to demand, it’s likely going to be a while before manufacturing catches up.
We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.
