This morning the latest Smash Direct took place to introduce a new character to the the roster. As it turns out, we received a rather big surprise.
Instead of a single character, Minecraft is joining the world of Smash Brothers. Playable Minecraft characters will include Steve, Alex, Zombie, and Enderman. And naturally, Minecraft themed stages will be added as well.
There will be a follow up stream this Saturday, October 3rd, at 7:30am PST / 10:30am EST to demonstrate the capabilities of the fighters and new gameplay. You can tune in via the official Nintendo YouTube channel here.
Our Take
While not what some expected, this is a big addition to Super Smash Brother Ultimate. Minecraft is played by over 120 million players monthly and is one of (if not the) biggest games in the world. In that vein, this makes perfect sense and will likely be enjoyed by players around the globe.
