One of the tent pole franchises for Xbox, it was a little surprising when it was announced that Forza Motorsport 8 wouldn’t be launching with the Xbox Series consoles. Having seen an extra year of development already, it was generally expected that it would release this fall.
However, the Xbox team has confirmed that the new Forza Motorsport is still in early development as the title will represent a “re-imagining” of the series.
The new Forza Motorsport, currently in early development, is a re-imagining of the series. We are taking what has made Forza Motorsport great over the past 15 years and pairing it with new game concepts and new technologies.
The title will only appear on Xbox Series consoles and PC (thus it is not cross-gen with the Xbox One) and on the Series X, will run at 4K/60fps with ray tracing enabled.
Our Take
This is a good thing in our opinion. Forza Motorsport had gotten a little stale by the 7th entry and it was clear that the team needed time to work on the engine, prepare for next-gen, and make some wholesale changes to the franchise to make it feel fresh again. We can’t wait to see what they have in store in the future.
