One of the titles fans have been waiting anxiously to hear more on from Ubisoft has been Beyond Good & Evil 2. The sequel’s announcement to the beloved classic from 2003 was a delight for fans and since its debut, has been near the top of many’s most anticipated list.
This morning Ubisoft provided fans with an update on the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2. The blog post can be found here and in summary, states that they’ve added Ubisoft Paris to the development support along with additional staff to the internal team. However, the biggest announcement is that Beyond Good & Evil creator Michael Ancel, is retiring from not only the project, but video game development entirely. He shared the following statement on his Instagram page.
Today is very special for me. After more than 30 years, I’ve decided to stop working on video games and fully focus on my second passion : Wild Life !
My new project takes place in the real world and consists in a wild life open sanctuary dedicated to education , nature lovers and … wild animals.🎮🎮🎮 video games part 🎮🎮🎮
Many of you might want to know what will happen to Wild and BGE2. No worries, since many months now the teams are autonomous and the projects are going super well. Beautiful things to be seen soon.
May the fox be with you
Our Take
This is rather surprising and disappointing at the same time. While we’re certainly happy for Michael and wish him nothing but the best in his future journey, it’s always sad when a visionary creator leaves the industry. We hope Beyond Good & Evil still turns out very well!
