One of the biggest highlights of Ubisoft’s Forward event today was the reveal of their new IP, Riders Republic. And from the over-the-top trailer to the intense, multiplayer gameplay, we’re suddenly very excited about playing it come February.
From the Ubisoft development team(s) that brought us Steep, Riders Republic’s setting is U.S. national parks where you tackle a wealth of challenges and races by yourself in career mode or face off in a wide range of multiplayer modes.
From snowy mountains to arid canyons, ride through some of the most magnificent destinations on earth: the American National Parks. Bryce Canyon, Yosemite Valley, Sequoia Park, Zion, Canyonlands, Mammoth Mountain and Grand Teton have all been faithfully transposed and mashed up together to create the most unique and lively playground. Gather in a vibrant social hub and meet a wild community of fellow riders.
It starts with character creation which will play a large role in the title. From creating your character’s look and specializing in specific sports, Riders Republic features an evolving, character progression in career mode. You will try to tackle the leaderboards in biking, snowboarding, skiing, or wingsuiting while capturing the attention of famous sponsors. And if you hadn’t gathered it from the trailers, having the capability to inject personality and style to your character is certainly a focus for the development team.
Multiplayer meanwhile, is a core focus for the title and features a wide range of modes from small team matches to open-park, 50+ player races. Examples include:
- Competitive races and trick challenges: playable in PvP / Co-op / Solo
- Mass Starts: 50+ player races where nothing is off limits
- Community Jams: Wild 50+ player events which randomly pop up on the map
- Multiplayer arenas: 6×6 team PvP matchups
- Online Cups: for the very best only, make your way up the leaderboard
Being one of the first titles from Ubisoft to release on next-gen consoles, it’s also nice to hear that they will be optimized for. On the Xbox Series consoles and the PS5, Riders Republic will run at 60fps and feature more than 50 players on screen simultaneously during the action when the title releases on February 25, 2021.
