Rumor : Nintendo’s New Switch Aiming for 4K Readiness

While speculation has been running on a new Switch “Pro” model since last year, it seems as though the pieces are beginning to align.

We’ve now heard from several sources that a new Switch model is indeed coming in 2021 and according to a report out of Bloomberg, Nintendo is beginning to ask developers to prepare titles to be “4K ready”. While this could mean a few different things in theory, it definitely aligns with the “Switch Pro” theory. With the Xbox Series and PS5 consoles readying for launch and the Switch’s 4 year anniversary in March, it would seem to be a good time for Nintendo to upgrade the Switch.

Our Take

We’ve been hoping for a more powerful Switch since the rumors first began swirling so we’re excited by this news. While the Switch is a great device, it’s no doubt under-powered compared to the other consoles which results in many less than stellar ports of third party titles. We also hope that with the hardware upgrade, Nintendo is finally going to improve certain features of the Switch’s UI and Nintendo Online. Fingers crossed!
