Today, we finally got a look at some of the titles we can expect to play on our shiny new PlayStation 5s when it launches this holiday season. And thankfully, we also got to see the full console and accessories that will be available presumably at launch.
The show ran just over an hour and highlighted titles both big and small which have certainly generated some buzz around the industry. The only disappointing thing to be aware of, is very few dates were shown (which we call out below). However, according to Sony everything shown was running on a PlayStation 5. Let’s dive in.
First things first, though the show ended with the hardware, we’re going to start with it. The PS5 is a sleek, upright design (yes it can be laid horizontally though it looks rather awkward). It will come in both all-digital and disc-drive forms and will have a suite of accessories at launch including a controller charger, new camera (presumably ready for an updated PS VR in the future), headset, and media remote. No price or date was shared.
Strange opening to the show with GTA5. The title will be enhanced for the PS5 in 2021 and PSN Plus members will receive 1 million in GTA cash every month until the enhancement releases.
One of the biggest surprises was a new Spider-Man title. However, it is not a full sequel but presumably an off-shoot titled Spider-Man : Miles Morales. This will release this holiday alongside the PS5.
As we’ve rumored, Gran Turismo 7 was shown next including some full racing action and hints at some classic tracks. No release date was given.
The new Rachet and Clank title was shown. Titled Rift Apart, the gameplay looked incredible and it seems as though they are adding a female player as well! No release date was given.
Project Athia was the next trailer shown with Square Enix assisting in development. It highlighted an incredible art style but was a short trailer with no gameplay or context given.
Stray is a title described as “Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find the way home.” It releases in 2021.
Housemarques new title was shown as rumored. Titled Returnal, it looks very interesting and is said to combine side-scrolling roguelike gameplay with a third-person shooter. No release date was given.
Sackboy is back! A new platformer in the Little Big Planet world is being made by Sumo Digital. It’s titled Sackboy : A Big Adventure. No release date was given.
A new Oddworld title is on the way! Titled Oddworld Soulstorm, it looks to play similar to the classic Abe’s Odyssey so many loved. No release date was given.
Tango Gameworks new title Ghostwire Tokyo got its first gameplay trailer. It is expected to release in 2021.
Godfall also got its first gameplay trailer. The title releases this holiday as previously announced.
IO Interactive has been developing Hitman 3! It releases post-launch in January 2021.
Resident Evil 8 is indeed titled “Village” as rumored. It received its first trailer during the showcase. It looks fantastic and releases in 2021!
The rumors of a Demon’s Soul remake by Bluepoint were true! It’s coming and the trailer certainly got us pumped up.
Bethesda showed off gameplay from Arkane’s new title Deathloop which originally premiered at E3 last year. It is launching this holiday.
Last, but absolutely not least, we did get the expected tease for Horizon Zero Dawn 2 which is simply titled “Forbidden West”. While no release date was provided, it looks spectacular.
As always if you missed the show, we recommend watching it in full!
