PlayStation Now Subscriber Count More than Doubles Over Six Month Period

As the industry is seeing nearly across the board, gaming is booming; particularly as it relates to digital content and services. Similar to what Xbox reported with a massive increase in Live MAUs and Game Pass subscribers, PlayStation is seeing a boom for PS Now.

Sony reported an increase of 1.2 million subscribers to PS Now in the six month period from October 2019 to April 2020. This represents a 120% increase; the fastest growth the service has seen since launch. PlayStation attributes this to an improvement in “large” titles in the catalog, a price reduction, and of course the on-going pandemic.

PS Now

Our Take

As we always say, this is a great time for gaming and we love seeing all the platforms be successful in their unique ways. PS Now has grown as a service and we fully expect it to continue to evolve to more align with the Game Pass offering from Xbox (though the companies have slightly different methodologies). You can expect PS Now to have a larger focus on it as the PS5 approaches.
