PlayStation Announces Play at Home Initiative, Offers Two Free Games

Due to the global spread of COVID-19, many of us are following stay at home procedures. As such, PlayStation is offering a couple of free titles to PS4 players. Additionally, they will be offering support to smaller developers who may be impacted.

As of today, The Uncharted Collection and Journey are free to download and play through May 6th (in Germany and China Knack 2 replaces The Uncharted Collection). And once downloaded, they are yours permanently.

To support Play At Home, PlayStation will try to make those occasionally dull moments more exciting by offering Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey available for free* for a limited time through digital downloads from Thursday 16th April midnight BST / 1am CEST through Wednesday, 6th May midnight BST / 1am CEST. Once you redeem the games, they are yours to keep.

PlayStation has also reserved $10 million to support independent developer partners.

Independent developers are vital to the heart and soul of the gaming community and we understand the hardships and financial struggles that many smaller gaming studios are facing. With that, SIE has developed a fund to support them during this time. We have earmarked $10 million to support our independent development partners. More information about the fund, including participation criteria, will be made available soon.

Our Take

This is great to see and it goes without saying that we will applaud any efforts to support both players and developers during this pandemic. We hope PlayStation continues this initiative well into 2020.
