It seems the rumors were real after all (which we didn’t report on as we couldn’t confirm any details). Today however, Blizzcon continued with the announcements after Diablo 4 by confirming that Overwatch 2 is indeed real. The description per Blizzard is as follows:
“Overwatch 2 is the globe-spanning sequel to Blizzard Entertainment’s acclaimed team-based game, building upon the original’s battle-honed foundation and carrying forward everything players have earned into a new era of epic competition and team play. Square off against rivals in PvP modes, and explore the Overwatch universe firsthand in all new, fully cooperative missions that challenge the world’s heroes to team up, power up, and take on an overwhelming outbreak of threats around the globe.”
Blizzard then showed a new cinematic titled Zero Hour and some gameplay from the upcoming blockbuster. Enjoy!
Our Take
Overwatch is a massively popular game worldwide but we have to admit we never saw it being setup for a sequel. We thought they would simply continue to refine the game over time as many other developers are doing nowadays. Regardless, we’re excited at the prospect of a “refreshed” Overwatch and will be keeping you up to date as we learn and play more!
