Sony Announces that Crossplay is Now Open for all Developers on the PS4

Sony seems to be making a lot of changes to prepare for next generation and next on that list, is crossplay. After a long “beta” period with a handful of titles, Sony has announced that crossplay is now open for all developers on the PS4 platform.

Speaking to their focus on the future, Jim Ryan said “The track record of the incumbent platform winning the next time around is not a great one, so the major thrust of my executive energy is to avoid complacency”. As you may recall, this is a decidedly different tune than Ryan has taken in the past about some additional features for the platform.
Between crossplay and the new push for PlayStation Now, it’s clear that Sony feels the need to evolve to continue being a dominant player in the industry.

Our Take

At the end of the day, competition breeds innovation so it’s great to see Sony pushing forward with ideas they originally were against. In the end, the gamers win and so in that vein, this news pleases us!
