Recently rumors have been flying around the web stating that if you purchased a Switch on or after July 17th, you can call Nintendo and they will exchange your 1st generation Switch for a new updated 2nd generation Switch (as long as you pay for shipping and handling costs).
The rumored exchange requirements are as follows:
- Proof of purchase
- Have to have paid full MSRP of $299.99
- Appears to be North America Only
- Purchased on or after July 17th
Example of exchange: RedditÂ
The Verge reached out the Nintendo for an official response and they have denied that there is any Switch exchange program.
“We do not have a Nintendo Switch exchange program. We always want players to enjoy their Nintendo Switch systems, and if anything ever gets in the way of that, we encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com for support, or to contact our consumer support team.”
Our Take
This seems like something that Nintendo either may want to do or at least be more vocal about, as there are a lot of first generation consoles out in the wild. While it appears there are some customers being able to process an exchange, it does not appear to be an official exchange program.
