Rumored a few days ago, we again didn’t want to report on this. But it seems the cat is out of the bag yet again.
Arriving this weekend (apparently timed with the Xbox conference on June 9th), a new expansion is coming for Borderlands 2 (yes you read that right) which will bridge the gap to Borderlands 3. It is titled Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary, is free for all players, and is described as follows:
Return to the award winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault’s map has been stolen and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet.
Returning players can pursue an increased level cap of 80, while newcomers can automatically boost to level 30 and dive straight into the action.
This is simply fantastic fan service by Gearbox and a great way to get the hype train moving at full speed prior to the release of Borderlands 3. We’re certainly ready to jump back in – what about you?
