Rumor : From Software and George R.R. Martin Collaborating on Open World Game

Mark this down as one of the most surprising yet intriguing rumors to come out of the pre-E3 buzz. According to Gematsu, From Software (Souls Series, Bloodborne, Sekiro) and George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones) have been collaborating on an open-world RPG title which has been in development for the past three years.

According to some familiar with the project, Martin is one of the lead writers and the game will have the player visiting various kingdoms to kill their leaders and gain access to new abilities/powers. It is said to be published by Bandai-Namco and will debut on Microsoft’s stage at E3.

Update : According to GamesRadar, the game is titled Great Rune and will be centered on Norse mythology.

Our Take

This obviously would be huge news if true. From Software has a pedigree that is admired and a dedicated fanbase. And of course, Martin is known worldwide for Game of Thrones and if this has any semblance of that type of world, the game will have a fanbase on day one. Don’t forget, Sekiro first appeared on Microsoft’s stage last year at E3 as well, so this sounds quite plausible.
