After a hiatus in 2016, Assassin’s Creed made a triumphant return in 2017 with Origins, a title many people consider to be one of the best in the series. With Odyssey arriving later this year, and seemingly sharing many aspects with Origins, fans began to wonder whether the series was returning to an annual release schedule. We now have an official answer and that is : no.
Speaking at Gamescom, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented on the fan favorite series:
On Assassin’s, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year. It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one.
Our Take
This seems like the right move in our opinion. Origins was an excellent title and Odyssey is shaping up well. The last thing the series needs now is to return to over-saturating the market and wearing out fans again.
