Monster Hunter World, the first major release of 2018, has done extremely well for Capcom ; so much so that it is helping the company post their best financial figures in history.
Via an official press release which you can find here, the company stated that Monster Hunter World had surpassed 8.3 million units sold and combined with digital content sales, helped to drive the most profitable quarter in Capcom’s history with sales up 46.5% and operating income up a staggering 550% year over year.
Our Take
While we have criticized Capcom over the past few years for simply cashing in on old content (which they continue to do to some degree), Monster Hunter World has been a massive hit for the company and the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2 is far more of a “new” game than we anticipated. We hope that Capcom will utilize this success to innovate further with new IPs and/or titles out of their catalog we haven’t seen in generations.
