Yesterday evening in Tokyo, a Pokemon event was held to discuss the upcoming titles in the franchise. For Pokemon fans, it likely constitutes the most exciting announcements in a number of years. Here’s a full recap!
Pokemon Quest
Pokemon Quest is a new title for the Nintendo Switch and smartphones. It is available for the Switch now and smartphones by the end of June.
Welcome to Tumblecube Island! With cube-shaped Pokémon to befriend and hidden treasures to uncover, Pokémon Quest is a free-to-start game that introduces a brand-new land to explore.
- Unique “block” art style.
- It takes place on “Tumblecube Island” and you battle with teams of 3 Pokemon.
- It is a “free to start” title but has microtransactions.
- It offers three DLC options to start. You can find them here.
Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee
Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu and Eevee is a new game coming for the Nintendo Switch on November 16th. It will function similarly to Pokemon Go but will use the Joy-Cons and can be played in co-op locally.
Return to the Kanto region and experience a classic Pokémon journey in a whole new way with Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
- No online features are planned and an internet connection is not required to play.
- No battles with “wild” Pokemon.
- Pokemon you have caught in Pokemon Go can be imported.
- A new peripheral named the “Pokeball Plus” can be used like a Joy-Con to mimic throwing the ball to catch Pokemon.
- Battery life of the Pokeball Plus is around 3 hours and it is expected to retail for $49.99.
- It releases alongside the games on November 16th.
New Pokemon RPG
A new Pokemon RPG is being developed for the Switch and will release in the latter half of 2019.
- Will be in the style of Pokemon Sun and Moon / X and Y.
- It will be a brand new title.
- It will appease competitive players.
Our Take
While we’re not as into Pokemon here at SG as some others across the industry, it’s good to see some new announcements for the franchise and we hope that fans are excited. We’re mostly intrigued by the new Pokemon RPG coming in 2019 and will let you know as soon as we hear any more about it (including rumors). Are you a Pokemon fan?
