Hailed as “The Netflix of Gaming”, the Xbox Game Pass officially launches today worldwide. While it’s been available for some gold members since last week, anyone on Xbox Live can now sign up for the service. In case you haven’t been following the news on this, it’s $9.99 a month and includes unlimited play (fully downloadable) of 112 games currently. Additionally, it offers discounts on add-on content for the titles and the titles themselves (should you choose to buy them outright). You can sign up today for a 14 day free trial.
Our Take
While this seems to be flying under the radar a little, this is really big news for all gamers. It goes without saying that Netflix has become an absolute force in digital media and it’s only a matter of time before video games as a medium are delivered in the same fashion. This is absolutely our first look at what that means and it will be interesting to see how the industry responds to the offering.
