343i announced today that beginning January 20th, an open beta will run for the new Blitz mode in Halo Wars 2. Blitz combines RTS gameplay with deck building, card playing strategy.
The beta will run through January 30th on both Xbox One and Windows 10 and sounds pretty extensive. It will feature 1 on 1, 2 on 2, and 3 on 3 game types on the map “Proving Grounds”. Additionally all faction leader cards will be available to use and there will be daily and weekly challenges to participate in. While no cards carry over to the retail release, you can earn 2 free packs for the retail launch by playing in the beta.

Yet another one of our most anticipated games for 2017 gets some major news today. While we had heard rumors of another beta prior to launch, we didn’t have any details until this announcement. The Blitz mode sounds intriguing and allowing players to play, what could be an addictive mode, prior to launch is likely a good idea. And the additional server tests are absolutely worthwhile. We’ll provide our thoughts on the beta next weekend!
