Ubisoft Announces Sweeping Layoffs and Game Cancellations

We’re early in 2026 and the layoffs and cancellations have already begun in force. As reported by IGN, this morning Ubisoft announced sweeping changes to their organizational structure which will result in layoffs and game cancellations to aid in cost reductions.

In total, Ubisoft is cancelling six titles, including the much-anticipated Prince of Persia : Sands of Time remake, along with delays to seven more titles. The other five cancellations are yet to be named though its reported that three were new IPs and one was a mobile game. Meanwhile, delays will impact several games including the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake which is now set to release sometime prior to March 31, 2027.

Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Halifax will close as part of the restructuring while additional changes will occur at RedLynx and Massive. Additionally, employees will be asked to return to the office five days a week. As part of the announcement, Ubisoft noted their forecasted, fiscal year bookings have been reduced by $386 million.

The restructure will see Ubisoft split into “five creative houses” detailed as follows:

  • Vantage Studios, as announced last year, is responsible for the development of Ubisoft’s three biggest brands in Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
  • Creative House 2 will be dedicated to shooters including Ghost Recon, The Division and Splinter Cell.
  • Creative House 3 will focus on live-service which includes Brawlhalla, For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, and Skull & Bones.
  • Creative House 4 will feature narrative driven and fantasy-orientated series including Anno, Beyond Good & Evil, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia.
  • Creative House 5 will develop family games including Just Dance, Uno, Hasbro-licensed titles, and more.

Ubisoft’s Chief Financial Officer, Frederick Duguet, offered the following statement to IGN: “We went through a thorough review of projects across December [and] January, with the current market evolution in mind — which is consistently more selective. You’ve seen the last quarter showing a never-before-seen level of competition. Competition is here to stay.”

We’ll have more on Ubisoft’s latest round of restructuring on this weekend’s Bitcast. For now, we wish those affected all the best and hope they find new studios to call home soon.
