Since its debut, Rocket League has enjoyed an astronomical ascent into a realm few games reach. As of August, the title has enjoyed more than 40 million total players and just a short while ago, smashed its concurrent player peak across platforms at over 500,000.
Looking to take the next step to grow the community, Rocket League is going free to play on all platforms. It will go free next Wednesday, September 23rd at 8am PST / 11am EST / 4pm BST. As part of going free, a new “Season 1” will kick off which Psyonix will reveal more details on next week. For now, they’ve revealed some of what’s coming including Legacy Items for existing players, two new packs, and the launch on the Epic Games Store on PC.
Cross-Platform Progression
You’ll be able to link your platforms to your Epic Games Account starting tomorrow for existing players! For all the details on cross-platform progression, check out last month’s blog.
Legacy Status and Items
For those who already own Rocket League and are eligible for Legacy Status, the items that were revealed in July (Golden Cosmos Boost, “Est. 20XX” Player Banner, Rocket League-branded DLC, etc.) will hit your inventories with tomorrow’s update.
Launch on Epic Games Store
September 23 is also the day you’ll find Rocket League available for download on its newest home: the Epic Games Store! You can visit the Rocket League page now, and add the game to your wishlist so you’re notified as soon as it’s available. If you add Rocket League to your library between September 23 and October 23 you will receive a $10 EGS coupon that is redeemable on games and add-ons $14.99 and up. Plus, once you download and launch the game, you’ll instantly get two new items in your inventory: Sun Ray Boost and Hot Rocks Trail!
Season 1

Our Take
Rocket League is a tremendous game; simple to learn but difficult to master. It has seen incredible success and we’re sure that will only continue with going free to play. We love that Psyonix is adding cross-progression across platforms and we can’t wait to see what else they have planned in the new seasons. Let’s go!
