Respawn Responds to Criticism of Iron Crown Event

The paywall that exists during the Iron Crown event has spawned a lot of backlash from Apex Legends players. While the game is free to play, many players strive to earn skins and outfits for their favorite players. During the Iron Crown event the grind was excessive to many players, and even if you were to grind, you were unable to get many treasured skins unless you paid for them. A number of sites did the math on what it costs to earn all of the skins with the sum totaling north of $150. It’s also important to know to that the Iron Crown Event lasts for only two weeks.

Drew McCoy responded to the criticism with a statement apologizing for the poor choice in design. According to McCoy, the game will be updated on Monday, August 20th leaving you the week to earn items in a better fashion. He also mentioned Respawn needs to be better at knowing what to expect from the community with any future content updates.

Respawn Statement

Starting on 8/20, we’ll be adding and rotating all twelve of the event-exclusive Legendary items into the store over the course of the final week of the event for the regular Legendary skin cost of 1,800 Apex Coins. You will still be able to purchase Iron Crown Apex Packs for 700 Apex Coins if you choose. The store schedule for the week will be as follows:

Our Take

While Apex Legends launched in an amazing fashion, the formula has grown a bit stale. The updates have contained paywalls and with this latest event you really felt the squeeze. Let’s hope Respawn has heard the feedback loud and clear.
