During the Summer Game Fest showcase, Square Enix unveiled the final part of their ambitious & long gestating remake trilogy for “Final Fantasy VII.”

Officially titled “Final Fantasy VII: Revelation” the game will cover the remaining content from the original game’s 2nd and 3rd discs. Per Square Enix’s Press Release:

been higher. Take to the skies and explore a boundless world, fight alongside a fully assembled party, master strategic and dynamic combat, and prepare yourself for the climactic finale.”

During the extended showing at the Summer Gamesfest Showcase, we see some of the new features from Final Fantasy VII Revelation that build upon the foundation set by Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The open world introduced in the second part its built upon with newer locations like the Mideel Region and the Wutai Region. These regions become available by the introduction of the Highwind Airship, which will make exploration even more seamless as your party of characters get to parachute anywhere in the map in a seamless transition from air to land.

We also got glimpses of the latest iteration of the action/tactical hybrid combat introduced in Remake, where Square Enix declares its the system’s most polished form so far. In Revelation, the full cast of Final Fantasy VII is fully playable now with the additions of Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, which were non-playable NPC’s in Rebirth and now get a full combat kit. Vincent is described as “A deft gunslinger, whose lightning-fast gunplay and ferocious, bestial transformations can devastate the battlefield”, while Cid is “The Leaping Lancer, the Dashing Dragoon capable of controlling the flow of battle by swiftly closing the distance for powerful single-target lance strikes or unleashing sweeping area-of-effect attacks.”

Other additions to Revelation include New Combat System Fits, which further deepens the game’s customization options, glimpses of exploration with other party members beyond Cloud, a glimpse of the large scale battles against the Weapons, plus other things still under wraps.

The game will release simultaneously on PlayStation®5, Nintendo Switch 2 , XBOX Series X|S and PC via Steam®, Epic Games Store and XBOX PC in Spring 2027. Coincidentally, it lines up with the 30th anniversary celebration of the original FINAL FANTASY VII.
